Sometimes, well, often when I’ve been painting I find it hard to get out of painting mode and re-join reality. I start seeing things in terms of colour, everything becomes a possible painting… And that is exciting. Shadows are no longer grey but muted purples and ultramarine. The base of the tree in the photo above is not just browns. If you look closely you will see cobalt, cerulean, hints of purples as well as browns and silvers. Allow yourself to see the world not just in shades of grey, but the entire spectrum.. Then add some of those to your palette and see what happens. Your painting (and life) will be richer for it.
